Obituary for Willie Sneed (McCray)

On May 3, 1944 in Karnack, Texas, a gem was born named Willie Carol McCray. She was the 2nd born of 11 children to parents, O.C. McCray and Bernice Peoples McCray. Willie C., as family and friends referred to her, attended Karnack public schools and graduated George Washington Carver, class of 1963. She devoted her life to Christ at an early age and attended Peters Chapel Baptist Church in Karnack, Texas. She later joined Jerusalem Baptist Church in Marshall, Texas.

In 1961, Willie C. married the love of her life, Nathaniel Sneed, Sr. They made their home in Marshall, Texas and became the proud parents of three sons; Stanley, Curve, and Nathaniel Jr. She has a special daughter, Terri.

In 1973, Willie C. was introduced to the floral industry by John Zachary, owner of Zachery Flower Shop, where she worked and learned her profession over 13 years of working at Zachery’s. Her desire and vision to become an entrepreneur began June 6, 1986 when she opened her business “Flowers By Willie” at 705 W. Houston Street in Marshall, Texas. She was owner and operator of Flowers By Willie for 35 successful years.

Willie C. loved to entertain her friends at her home. “Spades” was known to be her favorite card game; however, gardening and playing the “one arm bandit” at the casino were additional pastimes.

Preceding her in death are: her parents; sisters, Eunice Taylor, Cynthia Mills, Nell Faye Williams; and brother, Jimmy Ray McCray.

Left to mourn her passing and cherish her memory are her sons, Stanley Sneed, Curvey Sneed, Nathaniel Sneed Jr.; special daughter, Terri Joe Simmons; grandchildren, Krystal B’Laun (Tyson) Manning, Johnathan Sneed, Shakeal(L’Votre) Hunter; special grandchildren, Malindiene (Antonio) Curtis, and Wardray (Nieshia) Jones; sisters, Faye (Roy) Taylor, Dorothy (Michael) Henderson, Marilyn cCray, Carolyn McCray, Sharon McCray, Donna K. (John) Cox, Jacquline Gaut; brother, Jackie Ray (Joan) Lewis; other relatives and friends.
