Obituary for Rosa Reece

Rosa Mae Lawrence Reece was the middle child born to Aubrey Lawrence and Alberta White Lawrence on May 10, 1924, in Gulfport, Mississippi and transitioned to her heavenly home on October 3, 2021, in Longview, Texas.

Rosa’s elementary school years were spent attending Turkey Creek Public School. She later enrolled and obtained her high school diploma from a boarding school for girls.

Music played a major role in the life of Rosa Mae. She and others in the family entertained themselves with dancing to lively music in the yard and on the large porch of their home. Love of music lead to a professional career as a music teacher. Additional employment positions were held as Head Start teacher and Avon salesperson.

On June 27, 1942, George Washington Reece and Rosa Mae Lawrence became one in marriage. To this union three sons were born, George Washington Reece, Jr., George Gregory Reece and Austin Cato Reece.

Rosa’s mission in life was to always put God first, love everybody, and help anybody. In Marshall, Texas her husband George became pastor, and she, First Lady of New Bethel Baptist Church. Together they lead God’s congregation. Other church affiliations in Marshall included Jerusalem Baptist Church and Mt. Zion Spiritual Church.
