Obituary for Napoleon Carter MD

On June 26, 1940, Napoleon Carter was born to the late Elroy Carter and the late Alberta Craft Carter in Houston, TX. He was a proud graduate of Phillis Wheatley High school. He was a member of the National Honor Society and graduated with honors.

Upon graduation, he attended Texas Southern University and there he received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy.
He then pursued a Doctor of Medicine specializing in Ophthalmology at the University of Iowa. He was a member of the American Association of Ophthalmology, American Medical Association, American Pharmaceutical Association, NAACP financial supporter, just to name a few. He resided in Longview, Texas, and there he began his career as a medical doctor in ophthalmology.

Dr. Carter founded numerous medical facilities including the Eye Care Rehab Clinic, the Dr. Napoleon Carter Ophthalmologist Clinic, and the Optical Shoppe in Marshall, Texas.

After his retirement in 2004, Dr. Carter began a career in real estate purchasing several homes throughout the city and serving as a landlord. He enjoyed his relationships with his patients, clients, and community. He will be missed.

He leaves to cherish his memories, wife, Mary Ann Carter; son Theron Carter of Houston, Tx; daughter, Tanisha Shelvin of Austin, TX; grandsons, Aremus Jenkins of Dallas, TX, Starjjeal Shelvin of Houston, TX, Starvonte Shelvin of Houston, TX, Karlton Wright of Dallas, TX; grand-daughter, Bradyn Shavers of Savannah, TX; brothers, Irvin Carter (Thelma) of Houston, TX and Elmo Carter (Cynthia) of Maryland; a host of cousins and friends.
