Obituary for Matthew Greer Jr.

On Sunday, May 14, 1950, Matthew Greer, Jr. was born in Marshall, Texas to Matthew, Sr. and Bernard Alexander Greer.

After graduating from Marshall High School, Matthew entered the workforce at Boral Brick Company, Marshall, Texas. He was employed there for many years. Later, he worked at Republic Cabinet Company, Marshall, Texas.

Matthew developed the nickname “Stewmeat”. Although its evolution is unknown, it became a name he was known as and referred to by relatives and friends.

Matthew was married to Emma King Greer (d) for close to 50 years. To that union a son, Charles and a daughter, Candace was born.

Matthew’s favorite pastimes included fishing, drawing, target shooting, cooking, and gardening. His favorite pastime was spending quality time with his family.

Matthew is preceded in death by parents; a brother, Robert Greer; sisters, Mevelyn Manning and LaDoris King; and a stepson, Dennis Johnson.

To mourn his death and celebrate his life are his children, Charles Greer and Candace Greer; grandchildren, Ebony Greer and Charleena Greer; step-children, son, James Johnson, Jr., and his daughter , Emmera and her son Karson; siblings, Gloria (Wendell) Thomas of Arizona, Betty (Willie A.) Stoker of Marshall, Texas, David (Thelma) Young of Dallas, Texas, Phillis Rogers of Marshall, Texas and Annette Turner of Arizona; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
