Obituary for Lurlean Washington

Lurlean Carlisle Washington was born to the union of John Wade Carlisle and Mary Elizabeth Carlisle on August 18, 1930 in Harleton, Texas. She had an 11th grade education, but a lifetime degree. Her spiritual walk with the Lord began at a very early age. She joined Connors Goodwill United Methodist Church and served faithfully until she moved to Houston, Texas with her daughter. She was not a soloist, but she sang in the choir and glorified God with every wrong note. She took pride in making sure the church was cleaned before Sunday service, and always assisted in serving meals in the church kitchen.

She had a clear and intimate relationship with God. On any given day we would hear her praising God through song and prayers. She was a faithful soldier who loved her family. She spent her younger years taking care of her mother and father until their death. While taking care of her parents, she displayed the fruits of the spirit which is love, peace, joy, long suffering, and patience.

Lurlean was a natural born caretaker. She alerted the nursing staff that there was a serious medical issue with one of her resident friends. Her quick actions saved her friend’s life. She would make her rounds visiting other residence making sure they were okay. Lurlean loved to snack. She had no problem sharing her Dr. Peppers, Hershey’s, and chips with other residence.

On Saturday, July 23, 2023, she was lovingly received in the arms of Jesus. She was preceded in death by her father, John Wade Carlisle and mother, Mary Elizabeth Carlisle; sisters: Lunie Mae Hurd, Carmilla Criss; brothers: Jessie James Carlisle, Matthew Kirk Carlisle, Wade Carlisle, Nolan Carlisle, Cody Carlisle and son, Lorenza Washington.

She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters and son-in-law, Darlene Carlisle-Matthews (Khaleed H. L. Matthews, nickname, Matt), Adversity Fay Washington; granddaughter, Amber Carney; grandson, Eric Washington; great-grandchildren, Quentin, Isaiah, Jordan, Aryn, Semeion, Samaya; and a host of loving family and friends.
