Obituary for Lorean Ford (Hurd)

Lorean Hurd Ford loved butterflies. This was a match for her personality, because she was a Social Butterfly who made a friend wherever she went. You could find her at the bowling alley making strikes with the 64 Rollers Bowling team, scoring a home run for the Lady Trojans Softball team, on the dancefloor swinging out, running a Boston while playing Spades, or beating her opponents at the Domino table! She loved singing and used her voice to entertain and inspire others. As one of the matriarchs of Rogers Street and East End, her home was the gathering spot where friends and family were treated to tasty meals, delicious desserts, and a place to stay.

Lorean was born on August 22, 1946 in Marshall, Texas to the late Lorenza Hurd and Lucille Clark. She accepted Christ at an early age and united with the Greater Macedonia Baptist Church of Marshall, Texas. She was first chair clarinet in the marching band and graduated from H.B. Pemberton High School in 1964. She received a bachelor’s degree from Wiley College.

Lorean worked for several years at Thiokol and Tyson Foods. During this time, she served in many roles at the Greater Macedonia Baptist Church: Choir Member, Youth Group Leader, Sunday School Teacher, and Church Secretary. She began working as a caregiver and joined the St. John Baptist Church. In 2017 after attending the East End Reunion she reunited with Greater Macedonia Baptist Church. Unfortunately, her health began to decline due to Vascular Dementia.

Lorean departed this life on Wednesday, April 14, 2021. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lorenza and Lucille Hurd; sister, Wilhelmina Hurd James; and son, Erick W. Cox.

Lorean leaves to cherish her memory, daughter Felicia (Roger) Henderson of DeSoto, Texas from her first marriage to John L. Cox. Son, Tommie (Nanetta) Ford III of Marshall, Texas from her second marriage to Tommie Ford. Several grandchildren, a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
