Obituary for Linda Shepherd (Reese)

Linda Kay Shepherd was born in Marshall, Texas on March 16, 1955. She was the eldest of four children of Jake and Lucy Reese. At the age of 10, Linda moved to Los Angeles, California for the year-round sunshine.

Linda attended John C. Fremont High in (South Central) Los Angeles. Always outspoken and the life of the party, Linda would tell like it is. She would criticize, love, make you laugh and give you a hug all at the same time. She would literally give you the shirt off of her back and the shoes off of her feet.

While singing loudly and dancing in the kitchen, Linda really enjoyed cooking. She made the best greens and fried chicken. She lit up any room she entered with a belly laugh and her staple phrase: “Hello World”. She loved family gatherings as much as she loved being in the country (if you know, you know) and watching Animal Planet.

Always the fun and loving mother and grandmother, Linda rested peacefully on August 8, 2023 surrounded by her close family.

Linda is proceeded in death by her grandmothers, Minnie Pearl Durden and Frannie; grandfathers, Frank Williams and Jake Reese; father, Jake Reese, Jr. (Big Daddy); mother, Lucy Reese; her bonus father, Franklin Leonard; and a sister, Pearlie Jean Reese.

Linda’s legacy will live on as she leaves behind the love of her life for over fifty years, Spencer Shepherd Jr.; her beloved children—son, Spencer Shepherd III.; daughters, Nicole Shepherd-Davis (Charles), Latoya Kay Shepherd and Angel Shepherd; 20 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters, Bennie Jewel Reese, Machelle Reese and Stephanie Frison; dear friend/niece, Gloria Gilbeau; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
