Obituary for JoEtta Gray
JoEtta Beasley Gray is at peace with God now and rejoicing in her happy heavenly home. She was always willing and ready to help and share her time and resources with all those with whom she came in contact on life’s pathway. She had a special relationship with her students that will last in their minds forever. JoEtta will be remembered by all that knew and loved her.
Mrs. JoEtta Beasley Gray was born July 29, 1933, in Marshall, Texas to James D. Beasley, Sr., and Bernice Rosborough Beasley. She went on to glory, April 15, 2021.
At an early age, she confessed Christ as the Savior of her life at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Marshall and remained active there for many years.
Mrs. Gray began her education in Marshall Public Schools and graduated from Pemberton High School. She received a bachelor’s degree from Wiley College and a master’s degree from Prairie View A&M University.
She began her teaching career at Bradley, Arkansas school district, Waskom school district, and she retired from Marshall Independent School District in 1992. She was a member of Texas State Teachers Association, National Alliance of Black School Educators, United Methodist Women – Circle #3, Ebenezer Gospel Choir, Women Worshiping God Through Music Choir, Nu Omega Chapter – Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Mrs. Gray was a Life Member/Silver Star of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and Wiley National Alumni Association Life Member.
Mrs. Gray was married to Thomas E. Gray. To this union, one daughter was born, Kimberlee.
She is preceded in death by her parents; spouse, Thomas E. Gray and brother, James D. Beasley, Jr.
Mrs. Gray leaves to cherish her memories: a devoted and loving daughter, Kimberlee M. Gray of Marshall; numerous cousins including Kathelene Young of Fort Worth, Texas and Gloria Lockett of Dallas, Texas; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends.
