Obituary for Joedell Booty

Joedell Booty, son of late Joseph Booty and Peggy “Bayfaye” Booty was born on April 20, 1955, in DeBerry, Texas. Joedell was the 5th of 11 children. His siblings who proceed him in death are his brother Robert Lee; sisters, Margarete and Allie Fair Booty.

He accepted Jesus Christ at an early age, was baptized and united with the Crossroads Missionary Church. He was educated through Carthage ISD where he attended Turner Junior High School. Joedell was one of a handful African American students that integrated the school system. He was a good student and an outstanding football player for the Carthage Bulldogs. He excelled in his studies and graduated from Carthage High School in 1974.

After graduating high school, Joedell joined his father in the construction industry.

As a young man, he thought of himself as a cowboy/rancher for the Harris family. He loved riding horses and running cows. Joedell owned a crazy horse named “Bandito”. He loved that horse! He always liked to showboat and would show out on the softball field for The Schlitz Bulls.

Never a dull moment in his presence, he was a jokester and real prankster. He loved wrestling and rough housing with John, and then with the nephews as our family grew. They invented a wrestling move called “Bugtussle”.

Joedell was caring, a good-hearted person and gave much to others. He defined the “Life of The Party”! He loved to dance. Before stepping and line dancing became popular as we know it today, Joedell created his own line dance for our family called the “Funky Four Corner” danced to the 1970’s hit “Hustle”. His signature dance move was called the “Dirty Dishrag”.

Joedell leaves behind to cherish his memory one son, La’Tobie De’Arte Jones; six grandchildren, R’Monte Jones, Ja Coti Jones, Ariyanna Jones, Areyanna Goines, Jada Jones, and Ar Yeh Jones all of Dallas, Texas; one daughte, LaTasha Kaye Bowman; three grandchildren, Ty’Tavia Zanae Dunn, Charles Ray Dun III, Zakyria Marae Harrison all of Marshall, Texas; his siblings, Andrew (Sharon) Booty, Wanda Roberts, Leneal (Etta) Booty, Margaret Whitaker, Aquanda Booty, John Booty, Tenia (Frederick) Walton, a host of great nieces, nephews, close cousins, and friends.
