Obituary for Glenda Faye "Tex" Ervin

Life is one of many precious gems bestowed to all. Glenda’s life began with the holy matrimony of the late Elga Ervin, Sr. and Bernice Booker Ervin. She was the fourth born to their union of six, the last being a baby girl who died at birth.

Glenda, like many in the Port Caddo Community attended Ms. Lockie Harris’s Kindergarten class before continuing her formal education in MISD. Glenda’s graduation from H.B. Pemberton High School made history as the last class to do so. While in high school, Glenda earned the nickname “Tex” because of her all-star basketball skills. She was also a member of the acclaimed high school choir. After graduation she attended Wiley College as a Business/Athletics major and continued her passion for basketball until her academic program was closed at Wiley.

Glenda was baptized early in life and began her Christian stewardship at New Hope Baptist Church, Scottsville, TX. She displayed her devotion to the church through tithes and offerings, the bereavement committee and the Homecoming celebrations “The Big Day”.

In the Port Caddo Community, Glenda was known for her softball skills, and upon the death of her mother “B.B.” she continued the practice of caring for the elderly and those in need by preparing meals for the sick and shut-in.

She was known for hosting large gatherings at the family home and challenged anyone to a game of cards or dominoes. In 2015, Glenda was instrumental in starting the Port Caddo Reunion. An anticipated event of current and former residents far and near.

Her work experience included Haggar Slacks, Dallas, TX, Thiokol, MISD and Meals on Wheels.

Family was important to Glenda and she embraced many including friends as part of her nucleus.

Left to cherish her memory are siblings, Patricia Ervin Green, of Arlington, TX; Eliga Ervin, Jr. (Irastine) of Austin, TX, Pastor Cleophus Ervin (Janice) of Fort Worth, TX and Rudolph Ervin of Arlington, TX; a special cousin, Deborah Davis of Dallas, TX; an aunt Bobbie Woodkins and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
