Death is God's way of saying "come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest." God’s angel gave rest to Mrs. Erma J. (Johnson) Curry on Tuesday, August 17, 2021.
Erma was born January 7, 1951 in Texarkana, AR, to the late Dossie, Sr. and Maggie Johnson.
Erma accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and united with the Stark Hill Baptist Church of Mandeville, AR.; later named, Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. Following the spiritual guidance of her mother, Erma grew up in Bright Star Baptist Church in Texarkana, AR.
On Easter Sunday, April 11, 1970, Erma was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life Samuel Curry. To this union two children were born, Linda and Samuel, Jr.
She received her education from Carver Elementary and Booker T. Washington High School in Texarkana, AR. She later finished Louisiana Vocational and Technical School in Shreveport, LA. Erma retired from General Motors Truck and Bus after 28 years, 6 months when her health started to fail.
Erma united with Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church following her family's move to Marshall, Texas in 1971. She looked forward to Deacon John Wilborn or her husband bringing her a DVD of the Sunday services.
Erma loved children. She found joy chaperoning Bethesda and Marshall lSD youth on field trips; particularly those to Six Flags. She worked diligently with her husband when he served as Sunday School Superintendent and Baptist Training Union Director. In addition, she helped clothe and transport over 20 children from Bel-Air Manor apartments to Sunday School. Her greatest joy every year was preparing over 100 eggs for the Sunday School Easter Egg Hunt.
