Obituary for Dorothy Knight

Dorothy Knight was born on March 29th in 1936 to the parentage of Johnnie, Sr. and Dora Foster. She was the second oldest of five children born to this union. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at Enon Baptist Church in Jefferson, TX, Kellyville area.

Dorothy graduated from Jefferson High School and from Hurd’s Beauty School. She was united in marriage to Calvin Johnson, Jr. until his death in 1989. To this union, four children were born: Linda, Martha, Jewel, and Carolyn. Together, they joined the Faith Temple Church of God In Christ where Dorothy remained a devoted member until her transition. Later in life, Dorothy was united in marriage to Robert Knight until his death in 2018.

Dorothy was employed at Thiokol Chemical Corporation as an assembler for over 25 years before she retired. Additionally, Dorothy owned her own beauty salon where she would faithfully style hair on the weekends. As an active member and skilled musician, Dorothy played the piano at Faith Temple COGIC for several years and was also the church secretary. She held many positions in the church as well as sang in the Lottie District Choir. She loved attending church events with good singing and preaching.

Dorothy had a passion for cooking, sewing, and quilting. In her pastime, she enjoyed watching soap operas and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys as they played on tv. She also took pleasure in conversing on the phone and visiting with family and friends.

Dorothy was a woman who loved the Lord, her family, and her church. She worked hard and diligently to take care of those around her.

Dorothy answered the call home on Saturday, December 24th, Christmas Eve morning. Preceding Dorothy in death are her parents, Johnnie, Sr. and Dora Foster; her daughters, Jewel Johnson and Linda Foster; her husbands, Calvin Johnson, Jr. and Robert Knight; her brothers, J.W. Foster, Jr., Bobby Lee Foster, and Albert Foster; and her sister, Loretta Foster Davis.


Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Martha (Gillion) Johnson-Lard and Carolyn Johnson; seven grandchildren, Randolph McAfee III, Qua’Shrendra Rochelle Slade, Patrick McAfee, Marchea Garrett, Carnecia Allen, Kyosie Shaw, and Calvin Johnson; twelve great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, family, church members, and friends.
