Obituary for Alice Coats (Manning)

Mrs. Alice Marie Manning “Bow” Woodrow Coats, the oldest daughter of Norman Tom Manning and Lorene Mapps was born September 12, 1938, in Harrison County, Texas.

At an early age she was united with St. John Missionary Baptist Church. She was educated in the Marshall Independent School District. She worked at the Marshall Hotel as a cook, City Laundry and Home Health Care for a number of years.
In 1955 she was united in holy matrimony with Joseph Woodrow, Sr, and to this union four children were born. In 1976 she met and married Hugh Coats. To this union no children were born. They were together until his death in 2011.
Alice was a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, cherished sister, aunt, and friend. Alice departed this life on October 9, 2021, at Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center-Marshall.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Joseph Woodrow, and Hugh Coats; one son, Jesse Woodrow; five brothers, Tom Manning, Jr., Lonnie Manning, John M. Manning, Charles H. Manning and Johnny Oliver; one sister, Helen J. Manning Jeter.

Alice is survived by one son, Joseph Woodrow, Jr.; two daughters, Mary Woodrow Booty of Bossier City. Louisiana and Yolanda Renee (Johnny) Woodrow Epps of Marshall, Texas; one brother, Joe Dell (Linda) Oliver; three sisters, Christene Johnson of Marshall, Texas, Joeann Jones of Dallas, Texas and Annie Ruth (Kookie) Manning of Longview, Texas; three grandsons, Kelvin Woodrow of Bossier City, Louisiana, Carlos Woodrow of Marshall, Texas, and Demarcus Williams of Dallas, Texas; three granddaughters, Deirdre Jones of DeBerry, Texas, Natasha Woodrow of Marshall, Texas and Shaqualia Williams of Dallas, Texas; seven great-grandsons and three great-granddaughters; other relatives and friends.
